CFI Celebrates Little League Baseball
Hello friends-
Over the past month it was hard not to get caught up in the excitement of the Fairfield American Little League team as they progressed through a very difficult District Tournament, State Tournament and then the New England Regionals. They have now earned an exclusive spot among the very best teams in the world at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA. We are all very proud.
As this special team moved closer to the dream of playing in the Little League World Series I couldn’t stop thinking about the year 1989 and the Trumbull Little League team. Having lived here in Fairfield at that time and knowing some of the boys playing that year…I was so excited for them and watched every game while they were in Williamsport. The Trumbull team worked very hard, played well together as a team and performed magnificently eventually winning the World Series. Quite an accomplishment. I remember it was an even larger deal back then as an American team had not beat the team from the Far East, or won the World Series in like 20 years!! I was more impressed with what that team did to help the community come together.
I thought it would be a cool idea to ask some friends of mine for a favor. They agreed instantly.
My friends at ESPN really pulled some strings and agreed to go back into the vault and bring out the actual game footage from 1989 when Trumbull won the World Series. They have agreed to make a first ever DVD of this championship game specifically for a special event to be held at the Community Theatre in Fairfield. We want to use the event to recognize the hard work that the Fairfield American team has put in so far, but to have this special event serve as a rally of sorts to get the community fired up about the upcoming games starting this Friday and continuing all next week. The fact that good friends of mine on that Trumbull team are now a part of the Fairfield community through their ownership in the Colony Grill and have already done so much for youth sports in this area…I find it funny that Fairfield now has a little bit of that Trumbull luck on its side too.
At the Community Theatre in Fairfield this Thursday night at 7pm we will show the entire footage from that special final game of the 1989 World Series as a FREE SHOWING. This is a unique chance for all the families who never saw the game in 1989 and would like to experience an incredible moment with their Little Leaguer playing the game today. Bring your children to watch it on the BIG SCREEN for the very first time ever! There will be some special guests in attendance and the event will certainly be a fun time.
Admission will be free, but contributions are encouraged and will be directed to the Fairfield and Trumbull Little League Challenger Division that enable boys and girls with physical and mental challenges, to enjoy the game of baseball along with the millions of other children who participate in this sport worldwide.
Please feel free share the news of this special event with anyone you know who would enjoy this VERY unique event.
The Community Film Institute along with Old Post Tavern and Colony Grill are proud to host this event and we hope you spread the word. Seating will be on a first-come first-serve basis.
Thanks.
